my first rebuild was a LSVTEC that cracked some ringlands... so i took some pistons and rods out of another LS and threw them into my motor, with those rings and rod bearings ---- i even broke a top ring on one of the pistons, so i took a ring off one of the not so shitty broken pistons and put it on NO IM NOT JOKING... 210psi across, no knocks... ran for a while before it melted a piston (unrelated)...

i built a B16A for my turbo setup. reused the rod bearings, plastigauged them and ----. checked and regapped all the [new] rings to "forced induction" specs....all that ---- is stressful and time consuming. i much prefer to slap that bitch together and hope it works

Lol...well, you've got some time on me but we both kinda cut our teeth on the same basic ----. My first one was about 11 years ago, bbc 454 for my '75 impala. First Honda motor was about 8 years ago, d16a6. It pretty much just needed to be freshened up...new rings and a good hone. Like Chris said...I started out learning Honda with d-series because they're so cheap if you ---- up too bad. Probably going to pick up on my built ls/vtec again pretty soon, still deciding whether or not I want to sleeve it or not.

i just got done putting my dohc zc back together i bought a brand new gasket set for it and i got brand new pistons n rings and all brand new bearings.....i just finally got it fired today its running kinda shitty Im still trying to figure out what some of the problems are i got coolant mixing with my oil ...and my head gasket is leaking allover the place ...im thinking that is wear my oil and coolant are mixing... i also got a chirping sound coming from some were and every once and awhile my idle will cut way down but gradually work its way back up...so if you got any ideas about what the hell is going on..let me know..

The chirping is probably nothing more than a super small vac leak somewhere, or the purge solenoid being a dumbshit. My built engine does it and I've stopped worrying about it. Fix the HG problems and we'll go from there. Fix one thing at a time.

I am doing my first build currently. Ls/Vtec, so I'm kinda nervous about the bearing being in spec and the piston rings being gapped correctly. Plan on taking my time and making sure it's done right. I thought about just letting a machine shop assemble it, but they want $$$. I plan on having the rotating assembly balanced, so I will probably just have them check the specs for me. Then double check to see if I come up with the same to make sure I know how to do it for next time.

Like I said, I plan on taking my time and lubing it up like a **** star.
