???????????????How do I Hone my B-series?????????????
I'm gonna hone my B18A1 for a fresh rebuild on sunday and was wondering what you guys have used for lubricant for honing the cylinders? As well as do I need to Ridge Reem the tops of the cylinders? This will be my first time honing a block and I borrowed a Ball Honer that goes from 3 -3 1/4 or 3 1/2 in. Which should work fine seeing as how an 81mm bore is around 3.1-3.2 in. Thanks alot guys for all the help. Any tips or tricks that you can offer are more than welcome!

Use plenty of lube and go in a rythmitic up and down motion kinda like masturbation. Yeah there's something about WD-40 is a solvent but I've used it plenty of times for honing and it never hurt anything

Actually, 15 seconds would probably be fine. You're suppose to use honing oil. Stp mixed with motor oil will work. Go relatively quickly so that you get a nice crosshatch pattern.

so then you guys think just some light weight oil like 5w-10 would work nicely? possibly even synthetic's? the guy I borowed the tools from said to use like oil with kerosene but he is a V8 junkie and used to working with cast IRON and I thought it could F something up! So then I just want to do it for about 10-15 seconds just enough to take off the glaze? Thanks alot guys I appreciate all the help
