Default H22A + 99 civic = Daily driver?

Hello Everybody

Welp, I was talking to a guy I work with today that has a Cr/Vtec in his CRX. All day I think about cars and when he walked by I happened to be thinking...what if instead of turboing my current engine I drop in an H22 and call it a day? Get this he told me he and his shop could drop in a complete H22 swap into my car for $3500. Everything, even a prelude muffler hooked up to a custom exhaust. That sounds like a great deal to me, what do you think? I then brought up the required "but I don't want my car to handle like ----" He said people only say that because when people put the H22's into smaller civics like CRX's and hatches it kills the handling, but that the swap works quite well in 2 and 4 door civics( I have a 99 4dr) One more thing to pass the visual inspection here in CA I was thinking of sanding off the H22a engine code and engraving in a D16Y7 code....you think this might work? I mean "professionally" engraving the code, not scribbling it. What do you all think? he said I could granny shift it and still run a 14 flat on street tires. late

Why not put the H22 in and slap a turbo on it? That would kick *** all day long. 200 hp from the beginning, add about 10 psi and you got around 275 at the crank running low 13's on street tires. Not to mention all the B16 swapped people would be jocking on your ----.

Ok, I guess you want a reasonable response. I have wanted to put a H22 in my car forever. You just can't beat that stock hp rating. It wouldn't take much to make it fast as hell. I don't think the extra weight would be a problem. People say it effects handling, but I have heard otherwise from people who actually have the H22 installed. The one downfall you will run into would be the cost of aftermarket parts for it. D series and even B series parts are cheap compared to H series motors. If you have the money go for it. You won't regret it I guarentee it.

In Cali as long as the motor is the same year or newer than your car it will pass the visual inspection. Just remember to keep all the necessary emmision control items from the motor to your car. If the motor is from an OBD2 motor then you have to put whatever emmision control device they put on that motor in your car and so on. And make sure all i mean all vacuum lines go somewhere, dont plug anything up. And "scribbling" the engine code is a big NO NO, if you were to get pulled over and the cops see this ---- you are pretty much SOL! And if a shop recommends this procedure I wouldnt go and have the shop do the work, it seems kinda shady that a shop would recommend "scribbling" the engine code, it might be stolen and they just want to get rid of it. Good Luck!
