my 95 civic... one of the least expensive things that i bought for it was a 92 si tranny vs my 95 lx.

nothing sucks more than not having a powerband, and then dropping out of it shifting from 2nd to 3rd. but i was never boosted on the lx, so it might not be too bad depending on the setup. i only paid 100$ for the si. if you can find it cheap its DEFINETLY worth it.

Ya if you have a nose-diving torque curve, then longer gears will be a benefit.

No, you select gear ratios that match the engine's torque curve and transient boost response. Then select final drive ratio and tire diameter for maximum speed.

Only thing is that in drag racing first to second split is not going to be the ideal case, since you start from a standstill.

It doesn't matter if you have a 200whp D or a 500whp D, an EX tranny is going to be faster.

I pulled a lx trans for $60 at pull a part. For that price I can trash my transmissiom every weekend at the racetrack! 14 runs of wheel hopping madness!!!! Killed the bearings and drove it 35 miles on the freeway Sounded like a metal lathe the whole way home!!!!! But it got me home, just rock what you can get for cheap!!!!!

I like the sound of that as well. I ended up getting a 98 ex to play with. Now its about putting together a turbo kit. Damm this engine needs some work though. Feels really tired. I havent done a compression test yet..

i have a video of a comparison of the dx and si tranny going up to 7000 rpm's and you can see the differance of aceleration between the two. once i fix my fucked up home computer i will host it somewhere and post it up.

I would like to see this video if you have it yet.

Sorry for bumping old tread, but its not really that old and did not want to start a new tread for something that has been covered

I've had both dx/ex transmissions on my current setup and I ended up putting the dx back in.

Theres a local yard with prolly 10+d-series manual transmissions for $150 a piece, 3 of which are on z6's
