Default Current flow with car off?

Sister's car dying. I havn't checked to see if it dies when it's off, or runs dead while driving it. Last time I looked at the ride there was some beautiful wiring gremlins, and the car has sat about the last 8 months getting chewed on by the rats. (i had to tape a spark plug wire back together last night, it was chewed in half) I figure the things fucked pretty well, just wanna know if it'll hold a charge if I put an alt and battery in it for her.

What's an acceptable current to measure when the car is off? (I disconnected the - battery and measured with a multimeter between the negative terminal of the battery, and the harness)

Thanks

Oh yeah, 83 or 84 caprice classic v8. underhood label says it's a 4.4L ? never heard of that engine, but oh well.

Dome light mia I believe, even though when with the door open the amp draw jumped up a bit(don't remember what to), yet there was no noticable change inside the car. No lights or buzzers that I could notice.

Don't believe it has an underhood light.

I really don't wanna work on this car, nor do I have the time. But I know i'll be getting the call when it's broken down on the side of the road. So thanks again.
