code 17, VSS but why?
i was driving my car the other day and it started to idle funny. it would die if i was coasting or at a complete stop. so basically i had to keep my foot on the gas a little just to keep it from dieing. but the only code i have is 17. is that supposed to happen if my VSS is going out? i think it might be my distributor coil because i have been having problems with that but can't get ahold of one yet.
is that the right symptoms for a VSS going out?

the VSS connection gets dirty and throws CEL 17 alone with a dead or dancing speedo.
Usually just cleaning it cures 99% of the problems. If not I have quite a few D series assemblys onhand, all OBD-1 though.
But with the other symptoms, you might wanna check the gropund connection at the thermostat housing.

i had an extra d tranny here that i just picked up so i swapped it. but the funny thing is i didn't have any problem with my speedo. i swapped out my coil and the car runs better now but i will go through the engine bay and look for loose grounds.
