I know how to drop a tranny. I've done it both ways and I'd much rather yank the motor, if I have a cherry picker. Shift linkage only takes a minute to undo and I always drag the one with the bitch pin out with the motor. My exhaust disconnects with 2 13mm bolts, which don't require laying on the ground. :P

One of the many benefits of being on a military base. Isn't it some ridiculously low price to rent out a bay with all the tools you need? Like $20 a day or something like that. Well worth it either way.

I agree with everyone else about just dropping the trans, but if everything is back in and running who cares. Its your time and energy, not theirs

 

I agree it's his time being wasted. I or anyone didn't say it wouldn't work, but the method he chose to take. I just don't see the logic in take a motor out to change a clutch, but that's me. I changed my tranny this past summer and didn't have a creeper. I spred a mat on the floor and got under the car and got to work. The hardest part for me was lining up the tranny to the motor. And i was by myself and didn't get any help.

These r our opinions on his method and he shouldn't be so defensive about it. Like i posted b4 he got the job done and that's what's important.

 

OMG. This is the funniest thread ever.

Pulling the engine would be a good experience if anything. My front end got banged up in an accident and it actually hard to tip the engine down because the alternator ends up hitting the frame. You gotta be slow, careful and precise so nothing gets squashed.

By the way, what is up with the wastegate?

you know whats really funny about the wastegate. had i been in japan (which i will be in 4 months ), and did the same thing, and posted "this is the new JDM trick, i learned from the local japs" you ******* would be using it like crazy. i would almost garantee it.

HUH? I see the internal wastegate flange sticking right out front, but there's nothing attached to it?

 

I don't care who in Japan does their clutch job's like that. I'm not wasting my time to do it like that. There's one thing in life u can't replace and that's time. Have fun in Japan tho, make sure u learn the language that's very important.

 

I've taken off 4 axle nuts in my experience and never have I used an impact gun, just a ratchet with a breaker bar. I broke the ratchet on the last one I did, but I just took it back to sears and was back at it in 10 minutes.
