Default clutch install with junkyard racer.... 56K

well, after a week of boost i have to say, the first thing to upgrade is your clutch. last week i was talkin with mycrx over AIM and he mentioned he had a good clutch for sale. exedy stage2. so i snatched that ---- up, it got here thurssay, install started saturday afternoon.

boosted Z6 with a bad clutch

remove all of the wire harness that attaches to the car, along with taking out the radiator and all fuel/coolant lines that attach to the car.

yank that ****** out

notice how easy that flex pipe bends out of the way :P

take all of the bolts out that hold the tranny to the motor. yes, even the starter comes out....

take the clutch and preasure plate off, if it were a new clutch, i would have had taken the flywheel off also, and had it resurfaced. but used clutch=used flywheel. this flywheel accually doesnt look tht bad. also, once its all installed, the clutch will slip a little, so just go in and out of all of the gears alot, -drive it through the town for about an hour, it will be good then.

new (used) clutch in. you will need a 12pt socket for this. (i forget what size)

it all put back together

all back together, and running good!

some people say its easier to leave the motor in and just remove the tranny, but i have done it both ways, and this is the easiest. I had the motor out in about an hour (after getting the axles out) and had the motor back in and running in about 1.5 hours. (by myself)
all in all, it was a fun weekend.

omg, I cant beleive you pulled the engine to do a clutch job. There is no way in hell its faster to do it like that. I guess if your really bored and do not know wtf you are doing.. Go ahead?! but its a complete waste of time. Pulling a tranny (ESPECIALLY IN A EG/EK!) is so freaking easy. I'm not saying pulling the engine is hard either, but jesus why even waste the time doing all of that? Not to mention you have to replace the coolant, rebleed the system, risk ------- up connectors and breaking the TPS when pulling it out.

It's a 10mm 12pt socket btw, and you should have atleast cleaned up your flywheel w/ a rolac disc before you put it in.

Omg I didn't know you smoked crack Why the ---- would you pull the motor to install a clutch? This makes about as much sense as pulling your motor to change your oil. And plus there's no way you did all that in 1.5 hours. That is 100% bullshit and you know it.

call it what you will. it was easy for me. of coarse i had a little help with guiding the motor in, but once i got the motor all in there, it was pretty much cake walk.

so i guess its 100% bull ---- then.

So your telling me its faster and easier to drain the coolant, disconnect the wiring harness, disconnect your charge pipes, take off your downpipe, pull the axles, undo all the mounts, and cherry pick the motor out of the car instead of just pulling the axles and undoing the tranny mount?

I'm surpirsed Jeff didn't mention my name in this thread. :P I hate dropping trannies. I'd much rather yank the motor. If I had a lift or even a tranny jack it might be a little different, but if I had a cherry picker I would yank the motor. I guess I'm retarded too.

BTW, the last tranny swap I did, I didn't yank the motor......and it sucked. :P

wait, i just re-read it, yes, its not total start to finish time, 1.5 hours.

saturday i got the motor out. that took about 2 hours. -axles were being a bitch. then the place i was using to do everything closed at 40, so i had to stop.

I went back this morning at about 10, got the motor/tranny seperated the clutch bolted up, started putting the motor back in at about 12. by 2, it was rolling on its own power again.

not total time, 1.5 hours. hell no. your right whity, that would be 100% bull ----. total time, probably about 6 hours

i yank the motor too :P i know it's very possible to do it with out pulling the motor, but i never have and honestly can't imagine getting it lined back up putting it on, especially with just floor jack and jack stands, a lift would be a little different, and i'm sure much easier.

I put the tranny on a spare tire, drag it under the car, straddle that ****** and wiggle the ---- out of it until it slips in place. Not the funest experience, but it works. I think I need to buy a tranny jack or something.

lol, I have no problem removing the tranny with the engine still in the car. I find it easier to put it back in then taking it out aswell. The only thing that pisses me off is I have to take apart the starter sometimes to get at that last bolt(EF).

Frank, you said you turbod your car too increase its resale value, if anything, I'd think you decreased it. I dunno if you are just unmature or what but having a well put together reliable car sure beats the hell out of a 170whp oil leakin', clutch slippin', boost spikin' flex pipin' open downpipein' fucked up car. There's doing ---- ghetto, and then there's doing ---- that's just dumb. Anyway good luck with your clutch and car, does you wife even ride in that thing with you?
