Well, since you drug Bisi's name into this, I thought I'd enlighten you a little about his carb'd setup. First off, the only reason he uses carbs is because in an all-motor application carbs provide a much better fuel atomization at wot and high rpm. To fully see a carb's potential you would have to build a motor that could see up to 13-14,000 rpm's. At those rpm, you're pretty much tuning for that, and anything below that range will suffer greatly due to carb's inefficiencies. As a daily driver, efi is the way to go...better throttle response and tunability at lower rpm's. On a forced Induction setup, fuel atomization isn't as crucial, and imho...just stick with efi especially if you're on a budget.

i see your into NA builds..i was for a while and know abit about NA honda motors...i was thinking of doing a itb set up but for the power you make and the drivability its not worth it if your going for big numbers..boosting is more user friendly for daily driving...i have been messing with a d15 i have sitting in the garage...it should be decent its only cost me 200 bux on my build i plan on running about 150 hp when im done..it'll be a neat project and the guys on sohchonda.com would buy the motor right up when im done with it

This brings back great memories of 1999. Me and a few buddies did a similar setup to our project car for a weekend race. Slo is correct on the carbs. Let me see if I can remember my history. Carbs run air differntly then full plenum/runner mani's. The create a stacker effect to the air pulled in, causing better.......better yet. Do a research on how carbs work...this should shorten my story. But lots of things change on your honda to run this setup. Fuel has to be de-regulated down to almost nothing. We ran Mikuni side drafts on the z6. Nothing else was plugged in...no tps, no map, no nothing. The ecu was used to run your normal car functions. We didn't have the old vac asist distro motor so that wasn't a problem. It will still run without the electronics of the motor plugged in. Remember...everything runs off jets and fuel now....from manuel tuning. Compression was brought up with zc pistons with a slightly milled head...but there was a bit of of dome shaved off to clear the valves. We ran a very wild profiled bullfrog cam on this guy. I don't remember too much about this setup anymore because it seems like it was centuries ago...but from what I remember driving this. The gas sucked. WOT was very awesome...but normal traffic miles suck. It was loud, the car stunk, and idle was very rough...but the power was very decent for a homemade setup. Bisi was a friend of a friend at the time. I gave us some advise on the carbs and tuning. I know I skipped lots of info inbetween but to sum this up....its easier to boost. Carbs can be done. There are lots of shops with adaptor mani's made for the d series now. But before you pick up some carbs...do some research. Its not a plug and play. There were lots of trial and errors. The stock carbs on old d series are SLOW. Not worth it. Do what you know...unless you have time, money, and effort to spare.
