Default TurboCharging a Carburated Engine? Is It Possible?

Hi Guys,

Quick Question, i have an older Mazda B2200 Carburated Engine, and To be honest with you the car is staying in my driveway and if it been used twice this year, that would be a lot I want to keep the truck since it's always usefull to have a small pickup truck, but i would like to play a little bit with it Do you think it's possible to Turbo charge it? The way the Exhaust pipe is done it would be really easy to built a flange and turbo charge this engine.. but is it possible with a carburated engine? what do i need? I'm familliar with turbo charging an engine with a MAP system but carburated would be a first, anyone have idea? And Also guys any idea how we could get a MAF Engine to don't see the boost like we do with a MAP engine? I have a Hyundai Tiburon that would be sweet also to Turbo charge!

First off I would suggest not boosting that motor. That motor is ----. I would look for one that can at least use the available RPM band. My brother had one of those and it was the weakest, slowest, pile of ---- motor I have ever driven. I think it came stock with around 70 HP. I'm sorry for knocking your ride, but seriously, that motor is junk. It would need some internals for sure.

If you are stuck on the idea of boosting it, then go for it. It's very possible. You just need a special adapter for the carb. You can easily make one yourself.

I Totally Agree with you this Engine Sucks, however i heard they were pretty though , don't be sorry to knock my ride, i agree with you it's totally a piece of sh*t, No power nothing but i though it would be fun to turbo charge it... kinda playing with it a little bit and if i could get maybe a little more than 82 HP (it came stock with 82 hp:P) and 118 Lb-Pi with a Low Compression 8.6 CR , what type of adapter you think i would need? a simple adapter to replace the existing "air box with the air filter" to modify that for a charge pipe? is that it?

Thanks again for you reply!

Yeah, that's all you would need. Just something that creates a seal from the carb to a pipe.

Which part of the motor did you hear was tough? I couldn't get my brothers truck to hit the redline. It just didn't want to go that high. It eventually blew up. It went through a head gasket and some other ---- before it went. I think it had about 100,000 on it. I like the body lines and the style of the truck, I just don't like the motor. I have seen a few with V8's and one had a Mazda rotory motor in it. Nice swaps for that little truck.

Actually that is my third car, I have a Hyundai Tiburon during the summer, with eventually a Lancer Evo 7 Engine in it... I Have the whole kit, just waiting for the winter ton install it.. check it out : http://www.tiburonquebec.com/cgi-bin...c&f=1&t=003278
And during winter i have a dodge durango with the 5.9 V8 in it... thinking about maybe change the automatic tranny for a manual one.. just wondering if it could work, and i have this junk truck that sit in my driveway, and it's so ugly i though it would be funny to put it turbo, the exhaust manifold would be perfect for a turbo, the way it's done it's a lot like the HF manifold

What year is the tiburon? A buddy at work has a 2003 and that thing would be nice as hell to turbo. It's already decently quick with the 6 speed and like 180hp. It's a 6gyl and I have been trying to get him to twin turbo it homemade style for a few months.

I drove one of those things... I have to say its quicker stock vs stock than my focus and civic, but I've heard MANY people say it can't handle more than 225whp... Sad.. I saw one at a dealership that looked like a porch 911 ( I know it sounds CRAZY, but its true !!! They wanted $22K for it.. ).
I've heard the 4 banger tib motor is MUCH better to mod ( as crzy as that sounds.. )

D15B3 ?? I'm thinking its DPFI..
