94 civic dx auto

things ive tried, charging battery, new battery, double checked all ground. 2 gallons of gas added..
wasnt gett spark so i put a dizzy i had in and now it has spark, new plugs...

drained the oil and put just a quart of new oil in.. car has sat for god knows how long, i bought it like this...

car cranks over really slow.. can a starter be weak?? the starter appears to work when hookup out side the car.. but can it be too weak?? or what else can it be??

Why was the car sitting for so long? was there something wrong with it?

 

no clue. it was one of those cheap deals for something you know is worth it.

she was from a small town. the mechanic there (town of 200 people) said the engine was bad.
all the service records show a ton of work done to it over the years including head gasket and timing belt 5k miles ago.. the engine just doesnt seem to crank fast enough to say the engine is "bad"
does that make sense?

 

I would throw in another replacement motor. I think that would be better in the long run. You never know what could be wrong with the current engine unless you wanna tear into it which = time + more money

 

Starter can definately be weak.

Check the connections, measure the resistance in the wire, check to make sure the little ground tab is on the starter.

It would make a high pitch whining noise if it's going bad too. Or a slight whining noise.

You can also take it off and hit it with current and see how far the bendix pops out.

 

i did take it off and hit it with power from a battery.. it poped out and spun , whining but what i thought to be normal... so you think it can be weak?

 

I used to be the mechanic for this boat rental company. Salty starters suck at life, yes it can be weak, but that might not be your problem.

It's not cranking? Slow cranking? Being homosexual in general?

 

It's an auto.

He could do it from like 20mph. I've done that ---- before when my friend's starter went out.
