no.. put the neg side of the ammeter on the neg cable and the pos side of the ammeter on the neg post on the battery.
Yes, the battery will need some juice because you need to be draining it to see how much and where it's draining.
Ammeter out of your car? you dont have a volt/ammeter? I wouldnt trust an autometer gauge as a diagnostic tool.
