i put a 91 si trans in my budies 91 hatch. the junk yard said it had about 100k on it.i also put in a new clutch(yes for the right year).i torqued the bolts down in correct order and correct ft lbs. on the pressure plate.the car drove and ran fine for a month,and then last night it started acting up.sometimes it wont go into gear or wont come out of first,but it only does this evry now and then.could this be a bent finger on the pressure plate...low tranny fluid, something wrong in the tranny? what do u guys think?

 

well check the trans fluid, thats an easy thing to do and if changing old fluid makes shifting easier im sure too little fluid will have the opposite effect.

check the shift linkage, a part might have come loose.

 

check the cable adjustment

 

That's funny... I had to wake up yesterday at 8am and drive about 40 miles to rescue my friends mom because of this problem... same thing.. couldn't get the car into gear... 40 miles just to tightn the clutch adjuster :P

 

adj. is fine,fluide is fine,i just think first gear is screwed

 

maybe bad syncros?
