I dont see how you will clean out the metal shavings short of a pressure washer, which I cant immagine being too good for a bottom end. Good luck hope too see how it turns out soon!

^^^^Lots and lots of carb cleaner. Make sure you pull the crank bearings.. I scrached the ---- out of mine while turning the crank to get better angles for the drill on the cylinders.

no way in hell i'd notch a block with crank in...it's not like it's hard to pull the crank out
