notching it in the car? man... talk about pain in the ass.

Pull the motor... do it right once. More steps? yes. Easier individual steps? yes. Plus you can take ---- off, clean and prep things on your feet rather than laying on ur back.

^^ loLz, and I thought welding exhaust pipes on a creeper with half a dozen jack stands hold up the car and the exhaust was a bitch!

Re: Block notching question #2

I just hope I can do it without ------- up the crank bearings..

Anyone else done it with the engine and crank in the car?

Re: Block notching question #2

I just did mine last night, crank out for sure, I dont see how it could be done with it in there, nor would I want to. There will be THOUSANDS of little peices of metal that will fly off, that will eat the hell out of you're bearings.

Edit: I brought my block to the machine shop today to have it hot tanked just to be sure to get it cleaned up good.

metal shavings like to stick to dirty old oil

Your pulling the motor. Full teardown.

degrease before

notch

degrease again

do it right or dont do it at all

Re: Block notching question #2

Just do it with the crank in. It works...let us know..more power to you...if it kills your engine...we warned you.

imburne 05-19-2007 02:44 PM

Re: Block notching question #2

^^^ Im going to.. I will take plenty of pics and make a nice writeup afterwards.. If the engine fucks up... Im going to kill u!^^^

Guy-Fast 05-19-2007 02:52 PM

Re: Block notching question #2

why not pull the crank?

pull your crank. Label your bearings. Re install

But if you want to do it go for it. You have been warned

Re: Block notching question #2

poor lil motor.... and poor guy....

a few easy beer drinking hours of pulling the motor will save you from the same if not MORE gay-under the car-painful-annoying hours. Its like this... spend 4 hours doing it right (standing and working in a comfortable position).... or spend 7 hours doing it wrong (on your back getting metal shavings EVERYWHERE) and another weekend fixing ---- when stuff goes wrong (and at this stage you will probably do things the right way that you should have done in the first place... assuming the motor doesn't get trashed.)

Keep us updated on how this goes... should be interesting.

Re: Block notching question #2

Please pull the motor for the motors sake! Metal shavings are definitely going to kill the bearings.

Re: Block notching question #2

Already making a video writeup on how to do it in car.. thank you for your suggestions!! I would love to pull it but lack of tools and a super tight budget is not allowing me to do so.. I will publish the writeup after break in of the motor.. That way there is no question that everything was cleaned throughly.

Re: Block notching question #2

I dont see how you will clean out the metal shavings short of a pressure washer, which I cant immagine being too good for a bottom end. Good luck hope too see how it turns out soon!

Re: Block notching question #2

^^^^Lots and lots of carb cleaner. Make sure you pull the crank bearings.. I scrached the ---- out of mine while turning the crank to get better angles for the drill on the cylinders.
