blew my motor, swaped another and wont run
well i was on the way home last saturday and i blew the ol honda up...chucked a rod bearing and yes i drove it home... but now i have another engine in it. when i got it i knew nothing about it NOTHING about it. i was told it had a slight knock in it so i yanked all the bearings. a few on the crank were messed up where the oil pump threw something into them but the crank was fine so i slaped some new ones in. i get the engine in the car, i swaped my intake manifold and turbo and oil pan and bolted it in i get everything hooked up, spun it untill it got oil pressure hooked the injectors and fire up and tried to start it, thats when the bad happened. it runs...kinda... its almost like the cam timing is way late. it wont build any vac. and i have to hold the throttle open a little to keep it running. i know the timing is right, i redid it 2 times. there are no vac leaks, i got it to hold steady RPM and took the carb cleaner to it and nothing changed. no CEL to be spoken for. i re adjusted the valves 2 times, they are set to .007 and .008 it has good compression from 190-200 give or take a little. im going to go back tomorrow and set the valves to .010 and .012 and see if maybe they are set too tight? im running out of ideas real fast. if anyone has ran into this befor please point me in the right direction thanks a lot.
nope...factory gears. something else i noticed is i keep seeing PR3 on this engine...i thought a PR3 was a B16 and a PR4 was a B18. i saw it on the cam gears and somewhere else, but i cant remember where? maybe on a rod or something under the oil pan? the cam gears dont bother me much other than knowing someone has been in the engine befor because all B series gears are the same.
Pr3 usually is b16, and pr4 is b18. You're right about the cam bears, they're both the same from pr3-pr4. A few other things can interchange as well...oil pump, water pump, etc. It's possible that the block had been used on someone's LS/vtec build and could explain the assortment of pr3 parts. As for the idle, it does sound like a cam issue. By friend's b17 gsr had the same issue...ended up it was off 1 tooth on the exhaust cam. Usually when I set a timing belt on a dohc, I move the gears 1 tooth off so when the tensioner pulls tension, it'll pull the gear into alignment from the slack in the belt. Careful though, cause your crank can move in the process, so it also might be off 1 tooth.
i redid the timing again today. same freakin result. when i do timing i always rotate the crank one full turn by hand to see if maybe something got off. the gears are dead nuts on. i ran another compression test and ran it up untill it stoped building pressure and everyone of them went to 212 exactly. then i ran it up untill it stoped and kept spinning it the pressed the release on my gauge and it built 212 again within 8 revolutions on every cylinder. is it just me or does 212 seem a little high? something else i noticed is its running pig rich when it does run. what would make this engine not want any fuel while my other one loved it? i have fhe timing set at 16* im running out of things to tell yall...thanks again for any info!!!!

Pull you intake manifold and check to see if their is fuel in the runners. I just recently had that issue with my Built H22A/Eg car. I ended up having to advance both gears 1 tooth cause of the milling. Had that block been decked? Has the Head been milled? Look up on this hybrid forum for H22A crank/cam gear wheel. Thats my post and many of a MAN gave me helpful info and thoughts on what to try. And today I finally drove the car after a 8 month build and 3 months trouble shooting. So first time I drove the car in a year.
welp, i still havent made any progress on this damn thing...i replaced the intake gasket today and no positive results. i re adjusted the valves to .010 and .012 just to see if they were too tight...nothing...i pulled the plugs and shoved a rod down the number 1 cylinder and pulled it through the strokes by hand and watched the valves and everything showed up right. im going to load CROME and flash burn onto my computer at the shop and use a new chip just to see if anything different comes out of it... just to see if its my programming. but that still wouldnt explain why it wont build any vaccum. i know its getting a ---- ton of fuel but that could be because its not getting the air it needs to burn correctly. what should my addresses be in flash burn i believe i have
008000
007FFF
000000
007FFF
is that correct? it burned the chip fine and no CEL and i did one through crome and still couldnt get anything to happen so...im at a serious loss... i wish somone like xenocron or JD or someone would chime in!
