Be careful if you are tightening your wheel bearings! You should tighten them until there is no sideward play, then back them off 1/4 turn. Check manual to be sure... really you should repack them and adjust them. Worse case scenario buy new ones. It is a dirty job, but you can do it.

I over tightend the front wheel bearing on my VW bug when I was 17.... and the spindle got so hot that it broke off. All I saw was my front tire rolling down the street in front of me.... then sparks out the right front as the spindle dropped to the pavement. Learned alot about cars since then.

My prelude did not have a serviceable bearing. So there is no packing or adjusting preload. I just tightened it up to take the play out and it didn't cause any problems.

DUUUUUDE..... I think I shat myself when that happened. It is funny as hell to think about it now though. I am still a lil' scared when I do wheel bearings.

Honda's don't use a tappered bearing like most other cars, so the more you tighten, your not really taking any slack out of them. I can't see a spindle snapping off on any honda because of this.

You can use a vise and socket to replace wheel bearings and ball joints. I have a hydraulic press, but it is tough to get the whole knuckle at the proper angle to press in the ball joint so I used a vise and it works fine. Please make sure you are using a socket large enough to press on the OUTER bearing race, otherwise you might as well not do the job yourself as you will ruin the bearings upon installation! Also, look for the snap rings that need to be removed so you are not trying to press parts out against the snap rings, you will get frustrated I am sure.
