Default bad TAS sensor.... what happens?

What happens when the Throttle Angle Senor goes bad?
here's why i ask...... i just finished swapping a completely stock D16Z8 into a completely stock 92 civic CX hatch. I used the wiring harness from the D16Z8 and got rid of the D15B8 harness. The car started up just fine. At idle it ran fine. I took it for a test drive and it seemed to be ok for the first half mile. Then the car started running horribly. It stalled out.... & when i started it back up, it would stay running but was "coughing".... it didn't seem to want to stay running at all. I figure it is either timing, or possibly the Throttle Angle Sensor. I notice that it may have been damaged. I have tried both non-vtec and vtec ecu's.... it runs the same.

some advice please.

Running bad, that could be alot of things, especially if its not throwing a CEL. do your basic checks first like plugs/cap/rotor and wires. If the TPS is out of spec it usually throws a code. If it has VISUAL damage, I'd probably replace it.

No check engine light you go to the basics like plugs, cap, fuel filter

brand new plugs & wires...... i thought i'd try something, so i uplugged the sensor and started the car.... it immediately threw a CEL..... code 7..... TAS. I will now take apart the distributor and go from there. please keep the advice coming. thanks.

unplugging the sensor and having the sensor out of range are 2 different types of codes and how the ecu will react.

Definatly do the basic checks first. tune up ----, timing etc etc.

so yeah.... i went ahead and replaced the cap, rotor & swapped in a new coil. The car still wouldn't turn over.....

later that day, i was at autozone and i talked to the one in-house mechanic guy there. i told him a quick run-down of what happened and how the car ran for a little and idled like crap. he said it sounds like a clogged cat. so, i went home & figured, "why not".... i took out the cat, introduced him to mr. crowbar, and put it back in. The car started right up! i swear i never would've guessed.

Thats pretty odd, I've only seen a few cases on hondas were the cats were clogged, but to actually cause a really bad runibility problem, thats crazy... Glad you figured it out.
