Yep, I did bleed the coolant and had the heater in the "heat" position. I think it might be solved though guy's. I am not sure why but the cooling fan was not turning on, and engine temp.s were getting pretty high But, I decided to wire the fan to a switch, and it seems to keep everything cool enough to prevent the stumbling/backfiring issue...
This was a really wierd problem because I'm not sure what the hell exactly was overheating to cause such drivability problems. But, I drove it around tonight for a while, and all seemed good. I'll keep you guy's posted, and thank you all for the helpfull suggestions.

I like OBD-1 but I didn't want to have to convert this Civic. Now I see why everyone recommends the Y8 head (I beleive) because the distributor will just bolt right up Crappy... Looks like I have more work to do.

going to obd1 you can just run a NA z6 tune and it'll run like stock (p28 or uber'd)
