Does anyone know what the operating temp of a b16a is. does the thermostate open at 210 degress F, fully thats what iv read in some posts. Iv got a b16a from hmo took it to machine shop rebuilt whole motor then put t3/t4 50 trim turbo on it chiped ecu 450cc injectors fmic basic set up on 8 psi. I was driving it and my temp gauge in the gauge cluster stoped working so i put in a autometer temp gauge. When i start my car it warms all the way up to 180 and dosent go any higher. I know thats when the thermostat opens, so then when i boost it and get on it alot it will go all the way up to 215 but will never go any farther how hot have people had theirs and what would be the hotest to get a b16. thanks

180-185 is normal temp for honda's. 215 is usually small block chevy temps :P

come on man, the answer is right in your face, what does a turbo do to an engine? what do you need to get rid of that? bigger rad maybe? hmm?

thanks for the info do you think the tuner is going to send me home if its getting that hot or can he tune it. And YES I WILL LATER GET A BETTER RAD

I've never had any problems with my boosted b16 heating up that much, even with a 1/2 rad in my EF and an evo8 fmic blocking the rad. Sounds to me like the guy could use to back his timing off a few degrees under boost (or advance it depending on how he's tuned). Or get a more efficient compressor housing :P

ya i hear ya on that, some of the 1/2 rads are compostie tanked and do not work as well as the full aluminum units. can usually tell if the timing is too far advanced, start puking coolant into the reservoir

That usually happens when the rad cap is on it's way out. Could try replacing that as well or step up to a higher pressure cap. Just make sure all your hoses and lines are good first so you don't end up blowing one out.
