86 Crx si with no spark...
It's an 86 crx si with a d16a1 and PG7(from an 86 teg). Turbo kit etc.
Last night I came home from work and the car was fine with no problems whatsoever. I park it and then come back out this morning to start her up and nothing. It turns over fine it just doesn't fire up. I have a FPR so I check it thinking the gas could have froze because it hit a low of 1 degree with windchills around -25 last night, but I was at around 30 psi so FP was fine.
Next thing to check is the ignition. I have a full MSD set up with a MSD 6al, BTM and a Blaster 2 coil. I pull the spark plug wire off and see if there is any spark, but there is none. So I have no spark for some reason. I don't understand what could have happened since last night when it was running fine.
Normally you'd think the cold weather would have an effect on something mechanical instead of an electrical item.
Any ideas on what it could be?
Is it possible for a coil to freeze?

Re:86 Crx si with no spark...
From what I saw it all looks legit. There are only two wires going to the coil and both looked fine.
Next thing to do when I get home from work is to check the power going to the coil. That should narrow it down a little.

I dont know much about Pre 88 Hondas, but does the distributors in the older 1g a1's have internal ignition ignitors? those are really common to fail on 88+ Acura/Civic/accords. Might be worth a shot. If ya have an extra dizzy just toss it in.

Re:86 Crx si with no spark...
I came home from work and it started right up. I have no idea what the hell happened.
I am pissed because there is nothing worse than not being able to fix an intermittent problem on the car. It COULD happen again, but when? You just don't know.
For the past month or so it has been randomly stalling. I'll be sitting at a light and all of sudden all the idiot lights turn on and rpm's are at 0. All but one time it has fired back up again on the first shot.
First off nothing is more embarrassing than driving around in an 18 year old "french blue mica" crx that seriously has the header panel held down by chicken wire. But then you have this same car stalling at lights and making really funny sounds (greddy type S BOV).
The worst was when I was driving around with the new girlfriend and my car could not hold an idle. It would stall whenever I took my foot off the gas pedal. That was the most embarrassing moment I had in a long time. At least she knows what the BOV sounds are.
I think it's time I get another car.
Thanks for the possible help.
Oh BTW...the 86-87 teg's do not have the internal ignition. Therefore, I also do not have the lovely electronic advance on the distributor... which also means I can't get any type of decent standalone.

I am looking for an 84-87 crx si/dx/hf in the NYC/Long Island area. Please let me know if anyone is getting rid of one because I need a new shell that is not rotted. It doesn't have to be running as long as there is little to no rust...AKA it can't look like my present car:
It's pretty quick...13.7 @ 107 on street tires.
And that is before this went in:
