Ive got my car sitting right now, its an 88 crx si with a d16a6 and stock tranny. When i put the motor in (used tranny/rebuilt motor/ 6 puck clutch) I was able to definetely put the shifter into reverse easily, i remember doing it cause I like the noise

Today I go back to my car to get some ----, this is 3 weeks later and its now -15 degrees out and the cars coverred with snow

Keep in mind this car hasnt been started at all, ever since Ive gotten it. So I sit down and 1-4 are easy and probably what they should feel like when stock, but 5th and reverse are just like theres a wall there, theres nothing blocking the shifter underneath the car and it worked not to long ago

check everything under the car, shift linkage etc... especially by the tranny maybe something is froze up, only other thing i can think of is a bent shift fork but that cant heappen if it hasnt been driven.

I had this same problem with a CRX I worked on lately.The shift linkage was bining up and was partially frozen.Keep working it back and forth and def check the linkage to make sure it is not hitting exhaust etc.

i had a similar problem in my maxima. one day i couldn't reverse. i got mad and slammed it in reverse. never had a problem again.

Do you think it could be because I dont have my tranny filled up with fluid and its 0 degrees or less for the last few weeks here?

do you have any gear oil in the tranny at all?

just fill it up and bang the shift linkage a little bit it shoudl free it up

I would start with the fluid and then just work it around.I live in northern Canada and I have had to drive in first for 5minutes till the tranny fluid warms up enough to go into a liquid and allow shifting.-40C sucks

I did this to my celica. The problem was when i put the engine in i bent the arm that moves the shift fork. try unhooking your shift linkage and putting it in all the gears by hand. you most likely just bent something where the linkage mounts up (probably not a shift fork)

mine too.. 2nd and 3rd are a HUGE PITA to engage when its really cold.
