That would be too easy if it worked, which is why i'm not so confident I guess. I'll try beltsanding the flange, but as for the head, it's on the car so that's a no go. I guess just hope it's flat and give it a try.

No, I got the picture that Petey's manifold is a lump of dogshit. What you don't seem to understand is that you are my verbal chewtoy, and I'm enjoying all this at my leisure.

Petey, take the damn manifold off and do it right. Any car that you've gone through from top to bottom is going to require a lot more work than that to sort it and make it right. Bite the bullet and make it so, Number One.

It's also non-existant. But that's ok, I'll go back to being your "verbal chewtoy" and letting you tell me how it is.

Right JD. I don't even have a manifold yet. Was ordering stuff from summit last night and wanted to save on shipping since its 13.99 per order (mostly regardless of what you get), so i'd figure i'd post and see what others thought so I could bundle it in with the rest of my order. Didn't know this was going to turn into a 30+ reply pissing match.

here is the problem. JD failed to type correct english. there is a vast difference between "run a belt sander across a head" and "run a head across a belt sander". though, i'd like to see the muscle bound freak that could do the former with the large type ;-)

i sense a certain air of arrogance in you JD that makes my own look benign and negligible.

one thing is certain, using a handheld belt sander where the flat running surface is smaller than the work piece will mean that it gets less flat. not more flat.

using rtv on an exhaust? umm? hmm?

proper mls gaskets with nothing except two flat surfaces is the way to go. other solutions vary between major hack, and slight hack, and out of reach of back yard mechanic.
