the old theory about "you are a product of your enviroment" is defintly true when it comes to people and hot rodding.
For instance while Scott debates his left nut in his hand and H22's in the other, im DEBATING with myself weather to buy a 20$ velocity stack from summit right now. Been on that one for about 2 weeks, yet Still undecided.

Damn, I just bought an automatic Y8 with around 70,000 miles. It was a friends car and ran perfect. So there's NOTHING I can do to keep the bearings good. Will synthetic help? Has anyone tried shimming the pump? Does this happen to more than half the Y7/Y8s?

Re:Whats everybody favorite single cam honda engine?
dude, all these people are saying this, but most have never experienced it. it isn't AS common as they make it out to be. I have in my car currently a y8 w/ 110k on it 30k of which are boosted and beaten on. and it is running fine. I am however swapping in a built Z6 bottom end w/ a Y8 top end (because of oiling/bearing reasons)

So did the Y8 block mess up on you or are you just using the Z6 block to be safe. Thanks in advance for the help.

know whats so funny, the guy who posted about the subject, has posted nothing about the D series motor, not even showing any interest in one. just wanted to know everyones opinion. well, i guess he got more than an opinion.

I am using the z6 for two resons, safety is the #1 reason, and 2nd, I already had one
when you build your mini-me, consider using your Y8 head in your build, esp if it is for forced induction. mild port job on that head and you have the best of both worlds.

As far as the d16y's go, no they are not just lying on the sides of roads(yet)
its an issue that seems to be related to an amount of user error as well. Honda engines are generally very forgiving, and thus the D16y's may have a lower tolerence for lack of maintence. IE keeping ur oil level up. A fellow administrator on the site(whom suffered the 2 y8 failures on stock motors as I mentioned) orginaly enoucnted the problem after blasting a canyon road with a decreased oil level.
Basically it just means that in the world of things, they d16y's are likely more suseptable to failure, than there older brethren.
On a side note, even the oldest EW (D series) motors in the 1g crx and 3g civics are considered by many to be the stoutest in stock form, Honda overflowed them with as much as 3 times as needed Oil.
