even when you crank it with the starter you will still hear a pshhh, atleast that's what i heard and it was my first time doing a compression test. what you're hearing-the pshhhh is air comming out of the three other OPEN spark plug holes. that's normal.

they make ones filled with fluid now.Its a single pully.Its called a Fluid Damper.I think they only make it for B series though.

the reason why you are getting such low readings for the compression is cuz your hands are too slow.
when the starter turns the motor, it moves it fast enough such that the valves close b4 the air "turns around" and goes back out.
so, unless u have super powers, you will never be able to get an accurate reading by hand.
