ya i didnt think about that. but left unhooked for a while could full field the alt and destroy it correct. unlikely but possible.

Re: this is a new one
Destroy it how? It is what the car runs off of, not the battery.

Re: this is a new one
possible slight ground shot in your primary harness
did a Y8 intake swap on my y7 and had mine do that randomly for a while and it turned out to be a wire rubbed the coating off on one the the rear brackets and if it just so slighty touched it would kill the ECU fuse under the hood play with the harness and change fuse and it would be good for a bit finally got off my lazy ass and checked/fixed the harness no promblems since tomorrow it will die on me most likely now that ive jinxed myself :l |

Re: this is a new one
It's going to read voltage across the entire vehicle electrical system that's in parallel with the battery.
There's nothing wrong with full fielding the alternator, aside from engine drag issues, not with any design I'm aware of anyway. All the street rods they dropped SBC into over the years usually ended up that way. |
Re: this is a new one
ya i know it was only hypothetical, or however you spell it. and i am aware that it is connected in parallel. with it unplugged it the alt would read low voltage across the entire system and full field. i was just unaware that it would not harm the alternator.
