this is a new one
ok so i get on the highway tonight and get maybe 5 miles and my car decided to stall out. it started right back up though so i dont know what could cause that to happen. i had plenty of gas in the car so i know it wasnt that. distributor/plugs/ wires are pretty new too. anyone else have this happen? im thinking it was just some random occurance. either way it pissed me off pretty good.

Re: this is a new one
its normal all cars do that
|
Re: this is a new one
anti-stall fuse is probably blown. It's located under the passenger seat. :P

Re: this is a new one
Gas pump? What does it do before to stall? Missfire or something?
|
Re: this is a new one
nope. pump is a walbro so i dont think its that

Re: this is a new one
sound like a loose muffler bearing or you may be low on blinka fluid..need to have that checked out at vato zone asap :8
|
Re: this is a new one
Ignitor. Happened all the time in the black hornet.
|
Re: this is a new one
Less than 1% chance of main relay. The one in my beater toggles when cruising down the road, and sometimes at idle long enough to cause the engine CEL to cycle like it does when you turn the key. It's rare, but it happens.
|
Re: this is a new one
i just spent 60 bucks for a new main relay so lets rule that one out
|
Re: this is a new one
who cares it was a one time random occurence. why waste time thinking about it when it probably wont ever happen again. if it continues to do it then its time to put some thought into it.

but if you are low on headlight fluid you should upgrade to halogen fluid also make shure you have 2 trannys unless you only drive forward |
Re: this is a new one
my electrical shuts off from time to time, engine just shuts off, lights and radio stay on, engine just shuts off.restarts after a few turns, sometimes one, sometimes ten but it does. replaced a lotta ----, still happens from time to time. no idea why. hasn't happened in a few months but it didn't stop for anything i did
|
Re: this is a new one
same ---- used to happen to me in my beater (1992 lumina)
turned out to be the ground on the starter was loose so i threw on a washer and tightened it up and never happened again |

Re: this is a new one
You might need to add some compression. I think they are selling it in bulk at Vatozone, you should pick up a case of it.

Re: this is a new one
Fuel filter
|
Re: this is a new one
the car did it again today. i was driving for about 5 minutes and the rpms go to 0 and i push on the gas and it jumped right back up and was fine after that
|
Re: this is a new one
It happend to me yesterday. I was on the highway, but the fucker won't start after shut off. 135$ to get it towed for 2km :1
I thought it was the main relay, but I hear the 3 clicks it should do. I thought it was the fuel pump, but I get pressure from the fuel filter. I have to check for the spark, I was alone and it's hard to crank and see the spark... I was in traffic and I didn't noticed the engine stoped since I was at low rpm. I took out my ostrich to see if the battery are gone. 30 secondes before the engine shut off I said to myself "The engine run pretty well today, ------- smooth" then it stoped.... I'll throw it in the garbage... |

Or the main relay cuts out, which kills the ECU and causes it to stop sending the ignitor signals telling it to fire the coil, and in turn synthesize an output for the tach.
|
Re: this is a new one
i doubt its the main relay. i just spent 60 bucks on a brand new one instead of ------- with old ones. but it never did it before i put that in so i guess its plausible. i guess i wont really know till i replace the distributor

Re: this is a new one
i just looked it up and its about 100 bucks for a new ignitor. or 250 for a new distributor
|

Is the I.D.-10-T light on?

ya i didnt think about that. but left unhooked for a while could full field the alt and destroy it correct. unlikely but possible.
|
Re: this is a new one
Destroy it how? It is what the car runs off of, not the battery.
|
Re: this is a new one
possible slight ground shot in your primary harness
did a Y8 intake swap on my y7 and had mine do that randomly for a while and it turned out to be a wire rubbed the coating off on one the the rear brackets and if it just so slighty touched it would kill the ECU fuse under the hood play with the harness and change fuse and it would be good for a bit finally got off my lazy ass and checked/fixed the harness no promblems since tomorrow it will die on me most likely now that ive jinxed myself :l |

Re: this is a new one
It's going to read voltage across the entire vehicle electrical system that's in parallel with the battery.
There's nothing wrong with full fielding the alternator, aside from engine drag issues, not with any design I'm aware of anyway. All the street rods they dropped SBC into over the years usually ended up that way. |
Re: this is a new one
ya i know it was only hypothetical, or however you spell it. and i am aware that it is connected in parallel. with it unplugged it the alt would read low voltage across the entire system and full field. i was just unaware that it would not harm the alternator.
