Re: New cylinder head UPDATED (56k no way)

Lol...what does your cumbustion chamber look like when you take the head of the car??
It doesn't look all clean and silver right?
That one looked nice and coffee brown to me, so it burned good and it didn't have much carbon build up or any for that matter....
I've taken a lot fo heads off and none of them had a cumbustion chamber with at least a tint of aluminum color of tha head in it, cause it was full of carbon...at least if it was run for a while. And from experience letting the head sit outside for that long to a day will make it rust a bit if it's not lubricated everywhere. The head didn't look brand spanking new and clean, but it looked ok to me for a used head....My head on my car looked worse then that when I took it off the engine except for the rust, but after leaving it for 2 days outside lol...it was rusty all over...but it's still working , just a litte WD40 an voila.
Good luck with the head...a worked head with welded cumbustion chamber ain't cheap

Any solid info if it noticeably advances or retards the timing? Does anybody know?

It advances the timing...
To make sure start it and put a timing light

ummmm, i don't think a few thousandth's off the head is going to affect your timing much :P if anything, there will just be a hair more slack than normal that will be tightened up with the tensioner anyways.

Just get a cometic hg and you should be good. I've got an old one and it's thick and beefy as hell.

I've already got a stock thickness HG. The purpose of the head was to be milled to increase compression, and the last time to make sure it wasn't going to blow the HG and be all crappy like and stuff. Hopefully I'll get it installed tomorrow. I'll let you guys know how it turns out.
