AND it has to be damaging to them, so good luck to them on that.

Do you have any specifics of what you supposedly said or who the ---- this dildo is?

The plaintiffs are listed as a management company, and two chicks' names. The only info it has is the 5 IP addresses they are targeting and the times/dates of each IP address when they were supposed to have done whatever they did, which the court document has no more info than that. I could probably find that information out, but I'd have to call/mail something to the court which would give up my identity (what they really want, so they can just send lawsuit paperwork), but I know I didn't have anything to do with this ----, so it doesn't matter to me what was said or done.

They got the IP addresses from a Craigslist rep, so I guess that's where they were supposed to have been defamed. My knowledge of craigslist is strictly a buy/sell classifieds site. You would think it'd be hard to defame someone on a site where you can't publicly respond to posts. This may have occured on a craigslist blog, but before all of this I didn't even know they had one, so I know I wasn't there.

- Call the plaintiffs lawyer as John Doe (all they know me by right now other than an IP) and explain to them that I couldn't have possibly gave a ---- enough about defaming someone in another state that I don't know, and hope they drop it.

From what I've gathered, finding someone guilty of defamation is one of the hardest things to do because of the first amendment. I would have to ------ a lie that I knew for a fact wasn't true to be guilty of anything, and proving that someone knew it was a lie is hard enough, let alone throwing in the mix not even knowing the person or living in the same state. Sounds like a fishing expedition for lawyers.

The only time I have seen cases that actually were defamtion online were people who started web sites to deface a company or a person. A post or reply is a joke to think that is defmation if thats the case were all getting sued

Yeah, one way or another this is a scam, but a legal scam that I have to respond to or I'll probably spend a small fortune on having a lawyer deal with it later. If I can road block it to the point where they drop it or if I can convince them they're talking to the wrong guy, I might be able to save money in the long run. As if I should have ---- to do with this anyway.

sounds like a load of BS... i frankly wouldnt even worry, (which i'm sure is the WRONG thing to do) i figure even if they give your name/address up, YOU didnt do anything, and AFAIK, YOU cant be held responsible for what SOMEONE else does on your IP... that person couldve just as easily walked into a airport/mcdonalds/starbucks/panera and done the same ----... why should YOU be held accountable, i mean, frankly EVEN if you had WEP, its STUPID-easy to break wep (which is STILL what the majority of people use, yea yea, i know WPA cant be broken with a good password)... frankly, it sounds SOOOO bunk what they're trying to do, you obviously didnt do anything.

... one more thing, how the ---- did they get your IP from craigslist? i think thats a decent question, how are they linking an IP from someone that visited? its not like the email was actually sent through YOUR IP... your getting questioned just for VISITING craigslist? i would contact craigslist (through an annonymous email like gmail) and verify that it they have indeed given out your IP to these people, its YOUR IP right? you deserve to know if your getting scammed.

seriously, nothing you can do...

theres plenty of IP's available, me and my buddy used to send people on AIM we met in chat rooms sub7 embedded in solitaire or something, then direct connect to em, if they accept it, you can just go into "netstat /an" figure out their IP, then ---- with em... its not always a hard thing to get, with sub7 you could do some nasty ---- (back in the day of win9x)
