If you could pick any japanese engine, what would it be?

Well, this thread really depends how you interpret it, either from a realistic or idealistic standpoint, its very clear why B series would be ahead from a realistic standpoint because most of us have toyed with them, know what and where to get most parts. They are relative inexpensive and readily available compared to some of the other motors. 1990 Technology FTW

In the early/mid 90's they finished phasing out all of their older construction types. They moved them all to tool steel during that time, or killed off the engine families that used them. Woot woot

Way stronger until the end of the track. You get on a real racing circuit you can lap the 3s-gte cars all day long with roughly 100bhp less from having a much mroe accessable powerband.
I'm going to strongly disagree with your opinion of 4G63, though. The engine itself is ****, it's just everything it is attached to sucks the big one.

As bad as dsm's are Ive never seen a 4g63 engine failure that was it's fault. They have cast pistons put a good crank and forged rods stock they can handle years of abuse that for a fact a B series honda motor would never live through.
Ive talked to you about it in pm but my 4g63 and honda distributor project is still happening Ive just been busy with other things.

The 2zz-ge? Na Toyota is conervative OEM. What happened was people could downshift from 90mph+ into a gear that would sling the valvetrain to 5000-6500rpm. factory valvetrains just don't normally *do* that fast. The bottom end would come out relatively fine. The valvetrains. Ya they get tore ------- up. (The botom end would be spinning 11,000-13,000rpm)
So they toned it down after, I forget... Two years of the four they were avalible?
At any rate... They got the stigma that you can't run high rpm on them becuase the stock engine would blow the valvetrain if you grossly missed a shift. hah.
Yall have never seen a 4g63's fail? I've seen quite afew with pistons damage. Hype wise, they're in the exact same boat as 3s-gte's are. Just not as bad because I'd say argueably the 3s-gte community (MR2 turbo / awd Celica) is alittle more educated on what not to do. It's not that they can't sometimes make 400-450bhp stock. It's that very few people can & have done it on dyno's. And none of them are reliable by any means like that off a dyno. You take one of those engines tuned OK on a dyno. Put it on the street & it's toast. Are the pistons flat out cast, or hypereutectic?
3t-gte Somebody likes racing Paseo's & Tercel's. bawahahahahahahaha
