So after you spray the primer you don't sand before the paint? The only experience I've had with auto primer is that thick yellow stuff. I guess it was made to fill very fine things and then you are supposed to sand it and then paint.
But you use regular primer so you don't?
I thought the tack cloth was the degreaser and all of that. :-\ :D
How long do you wait before you wet sand the clear?

You are supposed to sand primer before paint. Get a good epoxy primer like Valspar or something. I bought a book on how to paint cars and my buddy used to paint. We are painting mine in the spring.

When you spray a Good Auto primer/Paint, you will notice a differance. It goes on like..umm...something real smooth. lol. It will lay down with virtually no texture, if ya do it right. I mean take a look at it. If ya have some nasty runs, or High-low spots, then it may be the best idea to sand, but 98.7 % of the time, you wont need to.

Take any knowledge of the stuff that comes in a rattle can, and forget it. Good spray will act nothing like it. you'll be amazed when it goes on. trust me :)


As for wetsanding the clear, you want to make sure its Dry.
Its a good idea to bake the last run of clear, even if ya dont heat any other stage. Just even bringing in a space heater will work wonders for this. If ya air dry it, give it over night at the least. If ya do a Heat set..at roughly 90 degress or so, wait a good 3 hours or so. Clear turns real hard versus paint, so you want it to be completely hard before wetsanding. and when you wetsand, you only want to take the top fraction of a MM off, to remove any overspray and to shine it up. If you think you have gone too deep in a sand, you have. Also, clean your Sandpaper OFTEN. Dont load it up with clear, otherwise all you do is rub nice, new grooves into the clear. You cant clean your paper enough when wetsanding.
