i know how to paint a car.. and i just might take u up on that 100 dollar bet..
honestly, and not to be a dick or anything but you sound kinda like a punk that is askin for help and advice just to throw it back in the persons face

but maybe im reading to much into it

if i was you id do like a few guys above and just let maaco do it, it will probably come out better than anything you will be able to do on your own considering youve never sprayed a car before unless you just wanto have to resand it and respray over and over until it looks good and good luck with that

Very true, doing it on your own with little to no experience and the improper/improvised tools, can lead to multiple problems. Sanding, prepwork, bagging and spraing is alot of work. It would suck to have to do it all twice. I work for a bodyshop and even there we run into problems occasionally with paints not laying right due to solvents etc., dripmarks, boogers, you name it. But at least there we've got the tools and guy's to fix the problem accordingly. It can turn into a real headache doing it at your house all by yourself.

the proper technique will be all in the prep work, how you sand it, with what you sand it bondo work, primer, sealer, etc

me personally i do all wet sanding, i start off with something coarse and work my way to finner grits so to make sure to get as much clear off as i can without going to deep and to get ever little inch that might get paint, you want it to stick not fluff off in 6months, this is why this is important, also to coarse and your sandin will show through so it can be important, personally i like to hand sand for quality assurance but you can use air tools on a disc if you wish, most body shops do anyhow, for bondo you will wanto bring it all the way down to metal, let it dry sand it smooth and then primer and sand smooth again

these are just a few tips i have, im sure there are many better and more knowledgeable but i think that should get you started thinking about it

oh FYI when i prepped mine for paint 3 weeks ago i started with 220wet 400wet and then 800wet

That's the kind of info I could use. Who else wants to share techniques? :)

i wouldnt primer the whole car. just the spots that your fixing. sand that bitch down when your ready to start painting then use sealer. seal the whole car. lay down the base color evenly before u get spots on your car thats darker than another part. make sure you have a good gun and have it set at the proper psi. some guns workin pressure is like 40psi. if it drops lower than that its gonna start gettin grainy so check your pressure often. let it sit for 15 mins between coats. make sure theres no dust. dust is your worst enemy. dont lay your clear on heavy at first. just cover it dont try to go over it again on the same pass. just go around the car. then lay another coat and so on. its pretty easy IMO but body work is a bitch.

Other than what I already posted that I need to research, I also have more questions.

My factory paint is in ok condition. Of course I have to fill a couple small dents, but should I primer even if the factory paint is in ok shape? And what grit should I use on the factory paint to get it to where the primer will stick well?

I'm pretty sure I've heard of people just spraying over the original paint, but if not, how rough does it need to be?
