Its a lot harder than you think. A gun and compressor isn't enough. You need at the very least a filter so you don't get moisture going into the gun. You need to make sure there won't be any dust (thats why paintbooths exist), you need to know how to mix the paint with the proper amount of thinner, etc. You need to wipe down the car with some chemical, forget what its called. For how much you are going to pay for the supplies, just go to Macco. Theres will come out much better than yours.

Do you want to get the whole care painted? Or small body pieces. If it's just small parts, you can get away with a rattle-can duplicolor job and some wet sanding. Scuff, Primer, Scuff, Paint, Clear, Wet Sand. I also DIY'd the stock side skirts and the wheels using the same process minus the wet sand. I wouldn't recommend it for bigger jobs, and my lip is actually pretty chipped up because I didn't put on thick enough coats. Here's a pic of the end result:

Don't mind the grass, I'm too lazy to trim that ----.

If you'r worried about it looking like ass, then you better be prepared to either shell out the bucks to have a pro do it or do it yourself a couple of times. I painted my car twice this summer and I'm still not happy with it so the plan is to try it a few more times next summer and see what I can come up with. Also a word of advice. Seeing as how this is your first time painting you might want to use acrylic enamal or something that isn't BC/CC (PPG Omni is pretty decent). BC/CC is a lot harder to do and if you have problems in the base coat there is no way to fix it without redoing the entire thing.

LoL ----, can't help you there then. I need my whole car re-painted to fix some other flaws too (like a hit and run). With paint jobs though, it seems like you really do get what you pay for. Doing it yourself means having a booth, compressor, the right gun, the right paint, and a whole lot of ------' patience. Another money saver would be just to get a Maaco job. I've seen some turn out really clean, but quality seems to vary from place to place
