Re: fishing stories

I was in Nags Head fishing off a pier when this little guy about 5'5" 150lbs hooks an 8' 400lb shark on 20lb line. I don't know how, but he fought the bastard for an hour or so and called his buddy up in Duck to bring him a gaff so they could pull it up. It took 6 guys to get it onto the pier. During the fight the shark wrapped the line around a pylon under the pier, so the guy climbed under the pier and shimmied around the pylon a few times to unwrap his line. Mind you this is about 1/8 - 1/4 mile out in the water, at night, water is very deep, and he has a huge shark on his line. There was nothing for his feet to sit on on the pylon, he suspended himself by his arms with the pole in one hand. Anyway when the shark was up on the pier some drunk dumbass was playing with it and almost lost his leg. A few days later I caught a stingray, not a skate we caught probably 50 of those in the week we were there. The stingray was 2-3x bigger than the skates and put up quite a fight. I can't wait to go back. I caught a flounder when we were chilling down on the beach at Oregon Inlet.

I had swordfish one time, it made me sick for a week. It was caught fresh that day too. I think I'm allergic to that ----.

Oh yeah when the guy gaffed the shark on the nose to get a picture taken he stuck it in the eye which caused the shark to do a roll, much like a croc's death roll. This was a half hour or so after being on the pier. The guy that caught it and his buddy with the gaff dragged the shark down the pier while he was still fighting.

I went sturgeon fishing at bonneville back when i was a senior in high school. all day me and my buddy didn't get a sniff from them, so we decided to give it 30 more minutes and then bounce. so i reeled in and baited up and casted out. not more then 5 seconds later my pole starts to spool. i reach over and set the hook and a huge sturgeon tail comes out of the water about 15 feet off shore and 70 feet down from us and just soaks the ---- outa a bunch of asian people fishing. i was laughin pretty hard. I ended up fighting the fish for about an hour, first time it jumped outa the water i thought i had a ------ whale on. it jumped a couple more times before i got it right up to the bank. i got one good look at the bastard and the thing took off...it never stopped. ended up taking over 200 yards of 40lbs test off...i had no line left and i burned the ---- outa my thumb from keeping it from frying my reel. i'd say the fish was a good 200-300 pounder
