I thought the rods were the weakest link.

The rods being the limiting factor??

The old man was always cracking pistons on stock b16a bottom ends at the 400 whp mark also had bent rods has well at that #. Im a little suspect of all the huge power stock motors people claim has the tuning on all his motors was done By harv who is old and nationally known. He was on american hot rod tuning their cars and motors were tuned on Motec.

Then the motors got pistons/rods and ran low 10's on a blockguard. From what I gather with stock rods/pistons/sleeves any touch of detonation they all become a weak link give or take depending on the situation. The rods I know atleast in the b16a's are ------ beefy and take a beating like no one else. One of the motors was a stock rod/stock sleeve/forged piston motor that had a 60-1 on around 30 pounds and a 50 shot. Motor took it for about 4 races before it got rod knock and had a slighly bent rod.

Some of these guys may have made over 400+whp on stock motors but how many besides Dave Lee have actually had them running for prolonged periods of time or even down the track is far and few in between.

Thats pushing it. The motor proably broke right after. 400+hp on stock rods even b16a ones is pushing your luck. Trashing a good b16a head/valvetrain is hardly worth it

dohc vtec heads arent dime a dozen like sohc stuff that is basically given away. The 2 motors I threw rods out of trashed the whole motor basically nothing was left but external bolt ons.

we are willing to take that risk.
put it this way, all my years of being on hmt, this is my first time trying to prove a point at all risks. I am tired of bloated head domestic owners.

that was the point i was making. the 500hp b16 might not have lasted but if it makes it through the dyno pull then its mission accomplished

I guess Im just not that style of person. The chance of trashing the whole motor seems pointless to me. Blown motors suck especially a b series vtec. My wallet doesnt allow me to do such things.

That sucks that you blew your motor. Im sure you will get it back together in no time.

already ordered the parts, taking the block apart to put the stock block together.
this time I ordered some mahle pistons 84.5mm . as soon as they come in I will drop it off at the machine shop for bore.
214euros to bore .20 over, calculate that in dollars around $350. it would still cost more than mailing it back to the states for a better quality work.
