Gov. Janet Napolitano vetoed a bill Monday that would have made English the state's official language and required that government business be conducted in English. -- Supporters said the measure was needed to encourage assimilation of immigrants, but opponents said it was an attack on illegal immigrants.

Dangerous Mickey Mouse Mexican IDs OK with Napolitano
Gov. Janet Napolitano refused Friday to block Arizona communities from honoring the Mexican consular identification card. -- The Democrat said the legislation would have unintended consequences. The biggest, she said, is legal visitors could find themselves unable to get services from a police officer.

inner city schools get the most federal aid and they have the worst record.
There would be no incentive for a private school to do anythign beyond these goverment standards either

And about the inner city schools. I guess we shouldn't educate them then. Lets just turn them loose on the streets at the age of 6. Maybe they can get into some child prostitution to help mom pay for her crack.

I wasn't aware that this thread was about illegal immagration either. I don't exactly know what you're trying to prove by posting those quotes.

Bill on voter ID is vetoed

Associated Press
Jun. 27, 2003 12:00 AM

Democratic Gov. Janet Napolitano on Thursday was cheered by a largely Hispanic audience as she vetoed a bill to require voters to show identification to cast regular ballots at polling places.

Republican supporters of the bill said it would prevent voter fraud, but Napolitano told the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials that it would deter voter participation.

"In Arizona, we want people to vote," said Napolitano, who received a standing ovation from the Hispanic officials.

She used a red-inked stamp to veto the bill at a table on the stage after inviting other Arizona officials to join her.

Other states whose governors have vetoed similar legislation include Kansas and New Hampshire.

The Arizona bill would have required voters to present identification - either a photo ID or a bank statement, utility bill or similar document with the voter's name and address - to cast a regular ballot at polling places.

Under the bill, a voter without identification could cast a special ballot which wouldn't be counted until the voter's identity was verified.

During legislative debate, Democratic lawmakers said the requirement could reduce turnout among voters, particularly minorities and elderly voters who don't carry identification, by causing inconvenience and delay.

The proposed requirement to show identification whenever voting at polling places goes beyond one imposed by a new federal election law, the Help America Voter Act.

That law, passed by Congress in the wake of problems in the 2000 presidential election in Florida, requires voters to show identification when they register for the first time.

Napolitano told the audience that combating voter fraud "was not the real reason that bill was passed, and you know that I'm right about that."

Napolitano later told reporters when asked that she did not know what the bill was designed to do. "This bill is not designed to prevent voter fraud, I'll tell you that,"

Earlier, Rep. Steve Gallardo, D-Phoenix, told the audience that the bill's "sole intent is aimed solely at the Latino community" and the right to vote.

"I don't begin to understand why showing an ID would keep people from voting," said Rep. Linda Gray, R-Phoenix. "Every other place you have to show an ID - you go to the doctor, you sign up for videos."

you have a very little buisness knowledge rawr?

incentive is to MAKE MONEY, the best school, draws the most buisness, and makes the most money.

why do you think big private schools cost a lot? why do 90% of them get accepted into top schools? cause they learn the most, and they are acually getting what they pay for. education.

they are getting a 1000x better education, for 1/8th the price the government would pay at a public school.

if the parents didnt have to pay taxes for public schools (10k+ per student) they could pay 3.5k a y ear for their kid to go to a top private school. and they'd be much better off

Thats why everything at walmart is the best engineerd product in the world and never falls apart because the companys spent so much time making a good product so you would return and get business then right? The incentive is to make money, you're not going to make money by giving the students the best possible learning envrioment for their money.

You know why kids at private schools end up going to better universitys. Its because they usually have better parents that can afford to send their kids to a private school and care more about their education than more impoverished childrens parents do. And they would put a larger emphasis on going to university than the kids with the lower class parents. And I still have a hard time beleiving its 10k a year for a student. I pay 7 for a university with professors who get paid 90k a year and a campus thats better maintained, way larger, and allot nicer than any public school ive ever seen.

I'm pretty conservitive, but attacking public schools is rediculas. Sure allot of kids slip through the cracks but thats capitolism right? If you're willing to work for it and make it good for yourself, its there for you. I don't want to pay taxes so someone can sit around, breed and get fat off of the work of others from welfare, but i dont mind paying property tax for some kids to go to school and learn.
