Pull the starter and look @ the teeth on the flywheel and the starter, im thinking you speaking of more of the grinding noise not whining

I've tried two starters. So what am I suppose to look for once I pull my starter off? It just falls right out once I unbolt it? Is that normal? I asked about the bleeding part cause the pedal feels really mushy. Plus I thought the sprung 6 puck would have more heavier pedal. could I have of messed anything up installing the clutch or flywheel? The clutch plate can only go on one way and I tighten the pressure plate evenly down to 19lbs. WHAT THE HELL!!!

I reuse the throwout bearing and put in a new pilot bearing. If I didn't then wouldn't the release fork almost fall out or just flop around? I know I did cause I had to reuse the old throwout bearing, since Autozone gave me the wrong one and the old one was fine.

I had a friend tell me it was more likely a clearance issue with the flywheel and starter. Aren't all flywheel from 91-00 all interchangeable? Reason being is that the flywheel I was told was off a y8 and I'm running a y8 tranny and y7 engine. Even so it should still work shouldn't it? Whats the difference in earlier(88-90) flywheels and the newer(92-00)? Could it be an earlier d-series flywheel that I got and the guy I got it from just of been a moron? It doesn't have a part number on the flywheel anywhere but looks extremely like a ACT streetlite flywheel with the oval sections at the outter sections of the wheel. Looks like I may have to take this fucken tranny back off and throw the old flywheel back on. Any suggestion?

You did put in the Pilot bearing right? its about the size of a quarter and alines the input shaft with the crankshaft. The pilot bearing is installed on the center of the flywheel. New flywheels dont come with them.

Also when doing a tranny swap next time (this goes for all of you) do not disconnect the slave cylinder, leave it attached with the lines on. So you never have to bleed it after you do your tranny swap. Just disconnect it and let it hang in the engine bay, way easier.

I didn't totally disconnect the slave cylinder. Just unbolted from the tranny and hung it around the radiator hose. Pilot bearing and throwout bearing were all installed. The old one in the flywheel was shitty. I had the flywheel resurfaced too and installed a new bearing on that afterwards. I'm just thinking I might of gotten a older flywheel.

The ACT Prolite and Streetlite flywheels only come in the 90-2002 applications. The difference on the 88-89 flywheels is the surface area not the tooth count or clearence from the Block - Tranny.

Make sure your starter is getting juice, I think onyx had a real similar problem to this once and found out it was the grounds on his chasis and his starter just didnt have enough juice. The Starter solienoid will make funny sounds if the grounds are not hooked up right.

You always could compresson start the car everyday ;)

jeff made some really good points there and everything he said about the flywheels was correct of course ;). Anyways if your car is not starting and youve tried other starters i think you should be fine with everything. No offense but did you face the clutch the right way... Like with the springs housing facing toward the tranny? That could be your problem.
