It screams above 3500RPM, but is dog slow at the lower RPMs. If I had it to do again, I'd make sure the CR was higher. I believe after all the calculation, that our combo ended up at 8.5:1, which is fun only if you are running high levels of boost. Our current 11lbs, just isn't cutting it...

What about decking the block till you get a decent compression ratio? As I understand right now the compression is low because the pistons sit farther down in the cylinder.

I milled .075 off the deck of my a6 w/ycp vitara's. I had to shorten the oil control jet and the dowel pins. I milled .008 off the head, used a felpro mls z6 three layer hg, and a stock cam gear. All the marks lined up...

how much would you have to deck a a6 block to get the comperession up to around 9 to 9.5 on a vitara setup. I really don't want a dead car on the down low

Read between the lines, a half point CR does not totally kill low rpm performance. Mucking merrily about with cam bore to crank bore distance, and never degreeing your cam, does.

If you just want to hit a certain CR, then use one of the compression calculators stickied in the Hybrid forum duh. You've been here long enough to have skimmed the stickies.

I'm not too worried about it. That was my original goal with decking, to gain compression. I now think quench gained from decking is much more benificial than the ---- hair of off boost performance.

If I had to guess it's probably around 8.5 to 9.0.

Another option is to build a jdm d15b with d16 eagles/tt/scat/ls rods, vitara's, and a z6 or a6 head. The pistons come out of the hole somewhere around .080... and the crank has the same rod journals as the d16's

I know you wanted to gain compression, hence the asking. I'd rather have combustion taking place in the head rather than in the cylinders, but at the end of the day, either combo is good to 400+whp, so I guess it really doesn't matter. I'd just like to make some higherpump gas numbers than I've seen out of the combo so far.
