run a y7 head and build the block and screw both the a6 and z6 head. y7 has the biggest sohc valves of all d series.

y7 and z6 valves are the same, I am using y7 valves on a z6 head.

I really like the A6 (or B2, or B7 - same thing), they flow great, and with cams are awesome. You can get mild NA cams for $60 if you put your ear the the ground, and I think chris was telling me he's revved them to the moon on stock valvesprings.

I wouldn't go Z6 unless the head was practically free. They flow comparably to the A6, the stock cam is a hair better but nothing to write home about... if it was all that, the idle would lump a little since D-VTEC is only on the intake profile.

Anyone wanting 350-ish whp, feel free to run either stock A6 or Z6 head. Cams and porting and stuff are for bigger power setups where you need more flow and more cam, at which point A6 is a hair cheaper and you get a killer lumpy idle that proves you are a man. Some people get a little freaked out by a camming turbo car especially a 4 cyl, it's great, they either think you are a retard or they know what's up. :)

Which means they are the exact same size as everything else D16, except the A6 that gets .5mm undersized. ::)

jd, since you got in on this, you got any preference between the two blocks ??

Not really. Both girdles are pretty damn stout. If they didn't have girdles I'd suspect you'd run into rod and sleeve problems before the girdle thing comes home on you.

If you have to pick between A6 and Z6, do it based on the A6's +0.020" deck height.

One of Blundell/Foowee's friends Stithouse had a 200K A6 in a battered CRX with a JRSC and 75 shot, he glued a bunch of wierdass treasure trolls and figurines to the car and took a lot of people's money at the streetraces because they thought he was a dumbass. :)

A D16 and some balls is all it takes, I just like the A6 better because it doesn't have a certain four letter V-word on it.

I prefer the A6 becuase vtec is limp wristed and the less things there are to go wrong/deal with the better.Keep it simple.
