You would think nobody leaves open their connection either. Honestly there are 8 networks last I checked, and at that time 6 were WEP and only two were WPA.

I guess it's either because sometimes you'll come across hardware that only supports WEP, or because they don't know the difference. I set my mom's home network to WEP just because I was lazy, I knew it would work with everything, and the average person doesn't even know you can hack them fairly easily.
