get a B if you can afford it ive owned both a turbo d and a turbo b and would much rather have the B series ya a turbo D is way fun but if you have the money B series then build off of that you would probably be much happier also less maintanice if all you want is a low horsepower reliable ride leave it na ........

please feel free to flame away and let me know how the d series is total ownage over the b

boost the d and learn from it. my original goal was to boost the d16y7 for a bit and blow it and learn from my mistakes.

that was over 3 years ago and it still makes over 200whp/200wtq. i was going to drop a stock b-series after i blew it up, but it hasn't happened. now i'm building another y7 because it's so much cheaper. i'll have a built y7 installed for less than i could've bought a b-series swap not installed and it'll make way more hp/tq.

it's in the setup, tune, maintenance, and common sense/listening to your engine.

oh yeah...my y7 has over 115k miles on it now. i boosted it at 62.5k.

turbo the d.
it's cheap, easy, and the knowledge is priceless.
if you get a decent size turbo, you can use everything minus the manifold for a B-series later on.

I decided a few days ago that I'm just going to do it.I'm just going to take my time and put together a kit and get a really good tune.If the motor blows, then I can get another d for a few hundred bucks.I will also get to learn and see if I'm able to maintain a turbo car. This is not a project car, just a daily...If I am able to handle and maintain a turbo car, then I'm going to build my b series motor for boost. If I can't handle it,then I will build for all motor.Regardless of its its worth it or not,I'm going to do it,unless I come across a low mileage LS swap for the same price. Thanks everyone for your 2 cents,I really appriciate it.

all you need is a good tune for reliablity. tunning is everything when you run boost.
i bet you could even get some tt rods, bearings, pistons, headstuds and still break even over getting a b16 or b18
