Default Is it worth it?

Alright I'm hoping for some quick responses! I'm possibly about to buy a wet nitrous kit for $400, but have always wanted to go turbo. I've got roughly $800, and will have a job coming this summer. MY car setup is as follows:
'97 GSR w/ ITR pistons, camshafts, and valvetrain, VAFC, prelude injectors, etc. bullshit. My question to you guys is, would I be able to build a decent set up for cheap? or would this be half assed (isn't that the theme of this site :P) and should I just buy the nitrous kit instead?

TIA,
Matt

I don't know anything about nitrous. But you could definately put together a decent turbo setup for $800--lasts longer than 10 sec. a pop and no filling up bottles

You can build a decent turbo kit for $800.00. If you add the cost of refilling the nitrous bottle, in the long run you will spend more than $800.00. Nitrous will give you 10,15 maybe 20 seconds of fun. With a turbo that is tuned properly, you will have days, months or years of fun.

My kit is as follows:
Garrett T3 - $35.00
Turbo rebuild kit - $105.00 shipped
DSM intercooler - $15.00
Apexi V-AFC - $270.00 (new)
ACT HC5 XTSS clutch kit - $260.00 (new)
Custom manifold - $90.00
Down pipe from Saab 900 - $5.00
DSM 450CC injectors - free...you can get these for $40

I hope this will help you make your final decision.

with those pistons your CR is pushing 11..wouldn't boost over 6 psi if you did decide to turbo it.

If you still have your stock pistons I would put them back in and sell the ITR pistons, that should give you some extra coin for a turbo kit. You can definately build a decent kit for $800US. But with your 11:1 CR you'll be pushing it, possible but stay with low boost. Check out the classifieds you can find some decent prices there. You already have the V-AFC so that is usually one of the biggest expenses... So far I have about $800US into my kit and it is almost put together, and that is including buying an Apexi S-AFC which cost me $300 canadain (about $225US)
Just take a couple months to collect parts and if you keep a good eye on things you can get really good deals. Actually now that I think about CCA is having a group buy on Intercoolers so it would be a perfect time to pick one up. I'll pull the link for ya...
