I went to the junkyard today. and i saw some braided steel oil lines. But i'm not sure if it can be use or not.

 

You can always get some fittings at the hardware store to make them work on your set up. Thats if they are close to the right lentgh. If you need to cut them you will need to get AN fittings for braided line to put back on. I would get them, even if you can't use them somebody on this board might buy them.

 

What are "AN fittings"? I went to my local hardware store and told them I wanted -4AN fittings and none of the hardware people knew what I was talking about. I had to admit I was just repeating what I read on the internet, and didn't really know myself

 

u cant buy that stuff just at hardware stores.

u have to goto like performance shops and such and they will order them for you.. i duno what kinda chain stores u have down there mabey they have em.

 

What I mean is , when you take the oil lines off the car in the junk yard, they will have fittings on them. Now if those fittings won't work on your set up then go get some brass fittings at a hardeware store to adapt them to fit. If you can't make that work and you have to cut the lines then you need to go to a speed shop or online to get the right fittings to put back on the cut ends.

 

I have heard (from my neighbor whos' wrenched on NMCA drag cars for years) that AN stands for Army/Navy and was a grade of fittings during ww1.

Yup.

Try finding a local industial supply store. Something that deals with hydraulics, marine, diesel etc...
They should have any fitting you could ever dream of. You should be able to get steel fittings that cost MUCH less than stainless or Aeroequip stuff. Just carry in what you got and tell them what you need to adapt it to.

Your talking about the braided lines found on late 70's early 80's VW's and Audi's? Sounds like good cheap line to me!
