I have about 5000 miles under my helmet. I don't have much experience riding, but I do have alot of experience dropping. Oh well I'm glad it wasnt my bike .

WOW $3000 for an SV650! Yah ---- my friends. I guess its time to go shopping...

 

I'm well aware of the pros and cons of this particular bike. I'm not looking for a new bike nor was I looking for any bike at all for that matter, but this became available and I was able to get it for next to nothing. I already had a turbo so I figured that since the bike was, as you so eloquently put it, "slow as ----", I would put two and two together. If I was so concerned with whether or not it was safe, I would not be on a bike in the first place...but then I've never been one to play it safe. It may not be the best handling bike in the world, but I'm confident that it will be enough to keep me out of any serious trouble.

Well, this thread turned into a hijacked circle jerk pretty quickly. Anyone have any relevant input?


BTW, Tibby, if you're set on a new bike and you don't think you're ready for a gixxer, you might want to look at not only the SV650 but also the GS500-F. They look a lot like the GSX-R bikes, but are a little bit smaller and feature a 500cc parallel twin. They're big enough so that you won't look goofy on it, but they are fairly light and well balanced. They're new for this year, so you might have a little trouble getting a hold of one, but 5k for a brand new bike isn't bad.

 

i just rode a YZF600 on saturday. im in love. going to go talk to my bank tomorrow and whats funny; full coverage for the bike is 1400 dollars less a year than my car.

I would get any 4 cylider 600cc sport bike for a first bike, but not a Katana (no offense) They are steel frames where as almost all the others are aluminum now. the diff in weight between a katana and a gsxr is 100 pounds. The katanas feel big and heavy. My friend got his first bike last summer and he never dropped it.... He drove it through his closed garage door.
And for the point of theis thread, I don't think the turbo would work with the factory carbs.
