Default Two wheeled turbo??

I just got a hold of a Katana 600 and I was throwing around some ideas for it.

It needs a lot of cleaning up and some cosmetic work, but mechanically it's in pretty good shape.I also just got a hold of an IHI RHB5 and I'd love to do the turbo bike thing, but I wanted some opinions on the project's feasability.

I'm competant with a welder and a plasma cutter, so I'm pretty sure I could fabricate a manifold and piping for the system. My main concerns are whether or not the turbo can be used, and the induction setup. The turbo seems to be in fairly good shape, I have it apart right now for a rebuild. The only thing that concerns me is a small crack in the housing for the internal wastegate, seems like I could patch it pretty easily if it was a big deal.

The induction is my main concern. Can the carb system on the bike be utilized, or will I have to convert to a draw through carb or fuel injection setup? I'd really rather use the setup that's on the bike right now (four individual carbs).

What do you guys think?

Seriously sell it and get another bike. The CanOtuna bikes are heavy as ---- and slow as ----. Save the money you were going to spend on the turbo and get a bike that actually handles good, otherwise your just building a deathtrap.

can it be done, yes, should it be done, no

Hey Whitey, what kinda bike is good and ok-priced bike in your opinion? I'm 6'1 and 185lbs with limited riding experience. I heard that the SV650 is a really good beginners bike but I do not really like its looks, but I guess i'm gonna drop it so looks don't really matter :P. I really do not wanna get something too big, maybe a 750 at most. What kinda prices am I looking at for the bikes you recommend. Thanks

And no, I do not intend to turbo it.

The bike I would reccomend as your first bike is the one you feel comfortable on. I don't know your price range but you really should take a training couse (they're free cause the governemnt pays for it) and if you pass you get your license. So go out, sit on some bikes and find out which is the best that you feel comfortable on. The best bike for you is the one you like, not what everybody else says cause most people will reccomend the fast bikes.

Resist the urge to get a high displacement bike. Yeah it may suck at first to ride a slow bike but this is how you'll hone your skills the best. Most kids buy 750's and will never ride them to the limit cause the bike does all the work. If you have a low power bike you'll learn to maximize ALL the power of the bike and for you to go fast will depend on your skill as a rider and not the sheer displacement of the bike. In my opinion, I would rather outride somebody than have a bike that will out accelerate somebody.

This is just my suggestion but if you do take my advice, you'll become a better rider and you'll live longer cause you won't be able to get yourself in trouble as easily. Also if you don't spend a shitload on your bike you won't be afraid to drop it, you'll have more ***** as a rider and you'll become a better rider.

P.S. you will drop your first bike. Its not a matter of how its a matter of when. And if somebody who currently rides and is going to respond to this by saying they've never went over, well your a ----- than.

the sv650 is a good bike, i personally don't like the 'sport touring' style bike with out the front fairings, but my boy just got an 02 sv650 (he got it because it's not considered a sports bike so he could get full coverage on it), i rode it the other night and even though i don't personally like them, it is a great bike for a beginning rider and you can get them very cheap, he got it for 3500 bucks and it only had 3k miles on it not to mention you can't beat the sound of a v twin actually, heres some pics of the bike he just got........

So true.....I could have cried the first time my bike hit the ground. I was so pissed. I was cussing and yelling so loud inside my helmet it hurt my ears. It's no big deal now, ---- happens.
