Alright, ive done some searching on here and it seems you guys definatly know your stuff. Well i have a 97 yamaha vmax 700 triple sled that i wanna have some fun with. I know all about turbos/FI being a dsm guy and all. I know two stoke motors pretty well because i used to race motocross too. Well, see, the whole carb thing is what catches me here. I have a .42/.48 t3 (internally gated) laying around here being put to no use. I also have a stock smic from my talon. Now my only question is, how can i get around the carbs? ive read about making a air tight box around them...but that doesnt seem to practical in a sleds engine bay, just not enough room. Then i found that Whitey on here made a fuel injection system for a banshee. Now thats kickass. I was thinkin bout doing that, with some injectors, but i wouldnt know how to wire up a maf or mas sensor so that wont work. The only other option i have right now is to make the carbs boostable, which i cant find any info on for sleds. I read about a blow through set up on here, but im not completely sure on that. If anyone has any idea on how to make the sled take boost reliably or knows of a good place with information i would really appreciate it.

alot of guys do that here in BC. lemme tell ya, its just a bitch.

u can run circles around the FI guys all day cause there constantly changing jets for diff altitudes.. thats the main problem.

sea level u will run rich. 6000ft u run lean and blow your engine.

imo its not worth it unless your a hardcore hill climber with 2 sleds.

 

bingo, I have rode with tons of turbo sleds and only one has ever been reliable. When they work there unreal but when it goes bad which is alot you better have cash because they make a big mess. I am running a 03 vertical escape 800 shortend to 144 with walker evens remote resivior clicker shocks,slp pipes slp heads & air box , bored carbs lightwieght hood seat bluh bluh bluh, works so good I dont want to trade it in on anything else. Its not always the fastest or highest but super reliable and never finiky, I've had that and hated it. Were you at shortyz? I'm in castlegar bc

 

The 4stroke RX1's seem to be pretty reliable and I was at Yamaha checking one out the other day.I want one so bad they are a little heavy but the sound of was almost to much to handle.Good thing my credit is maxed right now.Prince George here as well.I think its gonna snow anyday now here and all my neighbours are getting there sleds ready

 

Seriously, fuel injection is the only way to go unless you really enjoy changing jets all the time. East Coast ATV had a turbo Banshee and they literally had to change jets if there was a change in humidity. They said ---- that and took off the turbo for an alchohol motor.


Turbo 2-strokes get such a bad name cause people don't pay that much attention to fuel management. I would not turbo a 2-stroke using carbs
