Default testing bov, do i connect after manifold or before

ok i just got my bov, i want to test it before buying more stuff for it.. i hook up the vacuum line to the intake pipe or on the intake MANIFOLD

Can i test it right now, when i am still N/A? i know the BOV works buy using vacuum and pulling the plunger upwards to let off the boost.

also can you guys tell me if my wastegate signal + boost guage, do they all go in manifold or i can run them off the charge pipes?

all you have to do is take a vacuum line and hook one end to the needle on the BOV and the other end to a needle on your intake manifold. hold the BOV in your hand and get a friend to rev the engine. Look and see if the valve is opening. And please dont ask why its not making a pssssss sound

i know it won't make a PSSHSHSHSHS sound.. no boost to vent..

but i HAVE to connect it to the manifold right??

it won't work on my intake pipe, like where one of the breather hose connects to it?

also does my BOOST gauge needs to be connected to the intake manifold as well? and my wastegate too?

you sound really confused.

you will not get a vacuum signal from the charge pipes. you must connect the bov line to some vacuum line on the intake manifold.
the wastegate can be connected to a charge pipe if you would like, as it only requres to see positive pressure. but you can hook the wastegate to an intake manifold vacuum line if you would like to also.
if your boost guage also shows vacuum pressure, you need to attach it to a vacuum line comming from your intake manifold, but if the gauge only shows boost, then you can hook it up to anywhere that will give you a positive pressure reading.

you can figure it out yourself if you understand how the motor works. at idle there is the most vacuum in the intake manifold because the throttle plate is closed and the engine is trying to suck air really hard. when the throttle plate opens the vacuum decreases towards 0. at this point the turbo starts building pressure.
when you suddenly close the throttle plate, the manifold sees instant vacuum and thats what sucks the bov open to release pressure.
if youre wondering about pressure on the bov nipple, the positive pressure during boost helps balance the pressure on the other side of the diaphragm. of course once theres vacuum it pops open.

so to recap, plate closed = idle = high vacuum on manifold side, little on intake side.
plate open = wot = very little vacuum, boost begins.
plate closes = high vacuum on manifold pulls bov open, intake side's pressure is vented. hope this helps.

Thanks alot people! this really helped!! Now i understand!

Ok stupid idea, so can't i test the BOV with a vacuum cleaner or that is not enough vacuum to make it open?

Ok, aside from that, am i allowed to "T" the bov and boost guage off a existing vacuum line? I heard something like only 1 T allowed per item, so if use boost guage + bov, i need 2 vacuum sources so i'll have 2 tee's, one for BOV, one for the gauge!

What's your suggestion on that?

I tested mine today, kind of gross but you try to push up on the bottom area where the charged air will be. It won't let you push up, but if you suck in hard on the vacuum line fitting it does allow you to push up. Gives you that yummy 1st gen DSM car taste too.
