Spec V, first build, about $1000

Re: Spec V, first build, about $1000
I was really excited when the manifold popped up out of nowhere. There is almost 0 aftermarket support for this car. Everything from DPs, intercooler piping, rods, pistons, are custom, with custom prices. I do exhaust work so this wasn't really too difficult. Eventually I'm going to put a 3" DP inplace, but I'm going to pick up a spare long block and I allready got an extra manifold ordered, it's way easier to fab like that, and not being rushed to get your daily driver back on the road helps. The DP is split so it drops out without having to unbolt it from the turbine housing, should make it easier to to change WG springs, but it'll still suck. The WG tube is going to be turned back into main exhaust and attached to a flanged neck so it'll still drop out. I hate open dumps, to each their own.
I'm really excited about the improved QR25 motor that's out, but I can't find any real specs on it. I think the crank on this one is fully counter ballanced and the journals are larger, so I'm going to research the possibility of offset grinding the crank to destroke the motor and safely get more revs out of it. It's not a Honda so I can't buy parts at Wal-Mart, lol. That would improve the rod to stroke ratio and maybe allow me to use DSM or some H22 rods. It's all speculation at this point. For now I just need to finish my exhaust because I'm running the stock mid pipe, 2" iirc, and recirc the WG. It still early in this project.
I should be picking up a 1997 d16 civic 5 spd with a blown motor, that'll be the ghetto setup, and I don't know ---- about Hondas, so it'll be fun.

very nice, a buddy of mine's got a '04 Spec V and we talk'd about doing the same thing many times to his car. We just never knew enough about the motor's capabilities or go-fast parts support to really worry too much about it. Looks like you've done a very nice job and the way it sounds, you know your stuff about Nissan's. You may like to check out Megasquirt who is a sponsor on this forum as to your Standalone Management issues for about $200! Nice work! later-

I'm trying to avoid a standalone, the MAF maxes out about 15 PSI which is close to if not over 400whp, but internals w/ a lower compression ratio are manditory at that point. TurboXS is comming out with a plug and play utec for the QR motor, but I'd need internals first, and I'm not paying $1300 just for rods and pistons, then machine work on top of that and a stand alone, nah. I'm keeping my eyes open for info on the new QR motor, if it's possible to build a motor that'll rev out a little and hold good power it's worth looking into, and it'll be good to be one of the first to go that route.
I made a heat shield at work, it was slow today.

....now that I can finally see those pics...looks pretty clean to me, is your car an 05?...what are the specs on that turbo? what size charge piping are you using? I have an 05 Spec, and I can imagine how the car would be with some boost...even if it was only 3.5 psi
