One other thing. What about the ends of the block? Wouldn't it make sense to also post them?

After you do the posting you should have the block rebored/honed so that any warpage will not effect the stroke. Depending on how much is bored out you may have to get pistons/rings that match.

All the load is on the front and back, not the sides... The intake side takes more of a load.
