Well, it is about time to get back to work on the Studebaker Lark. I have taken off for the last year or so because the project had gotten too big and it seemed like I was getting no where fast. After regrouping all my thoughts, and rethinking things I think I figured out the problems I have come across along the way so, I figure I will have it out this summer ( as I said before lol ) but only time will tell.

 

I have a modified '60 Lark wagon myself so I am partial to the old car. I enjoyed looking over your photos and seeing your progress with each new posting.

well, to tell you the truth, I lost the shop so, the car is sitting wit nowhere to work on it. the motor is removed and tranny as well.running into financial troubles I am not able to build everything anymore. I got a 76 Chevy short bed ( baby blue and white ) clean truck but needs rockers replaced which I have sitting ( without a welder lol ) and was thinking about putting it into that thing, I would have the fastest truck in the area for sure and might even give old farm truck a run for his money and thats what a lot of ppl have been telling me to do ??? I dont know, I got this truck, good truck, needs a little work but, it has a 6 cyl with 3 on the tree and the gas mileage is great and I am not sure I want to ---- that up right now to have a truck I can only drive a few times a year. what do you think? wont let me post pix so IDK

 

 

 

Nothing wrong with enjoying a beater truck for what it is. As long as it's in reliable shape. (My recently acquired 1972 Chevy truck turned out to have a cracked block - LS swap time!)

 

You are on the right path my friend, with the LS you can not go wrong. they are crazy good when you are beginning to build power with little work involved. they can handle crazy boost, nos or whatever you throw at them with little mods. the LS in my opinion is the best motor out there and sheds some light on how far technology has come but, with a price tag. A 4.8 or a 5.3 LS ( generation 1 ) is a hell of a motor what can take a hell of a beating and still give you over 200,000 miles ( see what I mean ) give her hell bro, there are a million parts available for it and you CAN NOT KILL IT! if you can, hell, you are better than me, I tried to kill one and hot rod tried too, they gave a 4.8 over 30 lbs of boost on a stock lower end and it made 1250 hp. it laughed at them and could take hella more. they had an ignition problem so they had to quit trying to kill it check out the story.Stock GM LS Engine - Big Bang Theory - Hot Rod Magazine best story I ever read on the LS.

 

Yep, I picked up a relatively low mileage, fully dressed 4.8 for $460. The local U-haul fleet maintenance center had been pulling them out of wrecked vans anticipating they'd have some vans with broken motors to replace. Only the motors weren't breaking, so they had a big stack of motors and nothing to put them in.

 

Yes, I know this is old, but I just found this on Google. What did you decide to do?

I love the idea. Something different.
